Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) is the premier state-owned transport enterprise, headquartered in Gilgit, the provincial capital of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Transportation is more than simply moving vehicles from one point to another; it is the lifeblood of our society. It determines how easily a child in a remote village can reach school, how quickly a worker in the city can return home to their family, and how efficiently a local business can bring its goods to market.
At NATCO, we shoulder a unique and proud responsibility. As a government-owned enterprise, our ultimate mandate is public service. However, we believe that public service should never be synonymous with operational inefficiency.
To fulfil this mandate sustainably, we operate under a progressive hybrid model. Our robust cargo and logistics division serves as our financial engine. By delivering world-class, commercially disciplined freight solutions to mountain communities and our industrial and agricultural partners, we generate the vital revenue required to fund and sustain our extensive passenger network. This is complemented by financial support from the government exchequer.
This cargo-led model enables us to bridge the gap between urban density and rural isolation. The economic surplus generated by our logistics operations directly subsidises essential “lifeline” transit routes in remote areas, ensuring that no citizen, regardless of geographic location, is left behind.
As we look to the future, our strategic focus rests on effectiveness, efficiency, and modernisation. We are committed to leveraging artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to strengthen our governance systems and improve the quality of our services.
